Common LTL Accessorials
- Liftgate pickup or liftgate delivery when no dock or forklift is available.
- Residential pickup or delivery for non-commercial locations.
- Limited access locations such as schools, farms, construction sites, or storage facilities.
- Appointment, notification, inside delivery, or sort-and-segregate service.
- Reweigh, reclass, or dimension corrections when shipment details do not match the quote.
Why Accessorials Matter
LTL carriers build pricing around the work required to pick up, move, and deliver freight. A dock-to-dock business delivery is very different from a residential liftgate delivery with an appointment window.
When accessorials are missed during quoting, the shipment may still move, but the final invoice can come back higher than expected.
How To Reduce Surprises
Confirm both locations before booking. Ask whether a dock exists, whether a liftgate is needed, whether the location is commercial, and whether anyone needs a phone call or appointment before delivery.
Louie's Tip
Do not hide accessorials to make a quote look cheaper. Add the real pickup and delivery details, then compare the carriers on the shipment you actually need to move.
